The Starch Foundation Fashion Show: Number 1,2 and 3

The first fashion show of this season’s program presents The Starch Foundation designers Bashar Assaf, Hussein Bazaza, Lara Khoury and their Spring/Summer 2014 collections. Founded by designers Rabih Kayrouz and Tala Hajjar, The Starch Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps promoting Lebanese emerging designers.

During the fashion show, Beirut-based Bashar Assaf is launching his first collection under his own label. Brave geometry with sharp and tailored cuts frames the female shape in his models. The collection also centers on original prints of metamorphic rocks, adding a modern twist to the classic cuts.

The second presentation is by award-winning and emerging talent Hussein Bazaza, who  has worked for Elie Saab in Beirut in addition to his internship at Maison Rabih Kayrouz. With The Starch Foundation he launches his line of ready-to-wear, characterized with dramatic cuts, dark shades, structured details and lush textured fabrics. The futuristic collection is diverse with rich ornamentation and regal details, probably inspired by his experimental experience with illustration, photography and artistic direction.

Not so impressive as Assaf’s line-up, designer Lara Khoury also made a good appearance. She launched her first collection back in 2010, now showcased in the USA, Asia and the Middle East. Her bold, minimalist style is sincere and highly innovative, centered on detail and femininity.

The three young designers presented by Kayrouz’ The Starch Foundation, showed individual styles without too much buzz. Although the show wasn’t as glamorous as we’d wanted it to be, it was a reasonable start of the second season of Fashion Forward.
